About Me

I'm Dave Ebaugh, coach and licensed therapist. I have been motivating and inspiring people like you for over 20 years. To my family I am a dad, husband, uncle, teacher. To my clients I am a therapist, coach, educator, motivator, listener, advisor, expert. In my personal and professional life I strive for growth. I share my experience with my clients to inspire and challenge them. I encourage them to challenge me so we can grow together. I use metaphors in my work to help my clients understand the work we are doing. Sometimes we are mountaineers, scaling a rock face, using our different vantage points to get up the mountain together. Sometimes we are sitting through music lessons, practicing Brahms Second Piano Concerto until we're both certain you've mastered that second movement.

Break Free is a counseling and coaching practice located in downtown Portland. I developed Break Free as a coaching and therapy model of treatment using principles found in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In my practice I treat a variety of mental health and behavioral issues. I use social media tools to enhance treatment. You are set up with your own Facebook fan page to chart your progress and rally your support. Twitter, texting, recorded MP3 scripts and recorded voice mail scripts help prompt you to monitor your experience and progress, and to cue skill building and behavior changes.

Advice on Choosing a Therapist
Research shows that your relationship with your therapist is one of the most significant aspects of the counseling process, so it’s important you find the person right for you. What does it feel like for you to sit with the therapist? Do you feel safe and comfortable? Can the therapist articulate their general philosophy and approach to helping? Can the counselor clearly define how they can help you to solve whatever issue or concern has brought you to therapy? Does the counselor seek regular peer consultation? Has your counselor done his own therapy? Does your counselor encourage dependence or independence? Read more at http://www.goodtherapy.org.
